It is believed that Barcelona have bid £10 million for the services of Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen who is 3rd in the pecking order behind Mertesacker and Koscielny.
However, if Vermaelen does leave then Arsenal will need to find a replacement.
Today’s media speculation now says that player who has been identified is Liverpool’s Daniel Agger.
Wenger has openly said in the past that he would replace Vermaelen if he left and now it looks like he will have to although, Arsenal did offer Vermaelen a new contract.
However, ant transfer with Liverpool would be difficult with Liverpool after last year’s antics. Moreover, Agger may not want to be third choice and doesn’t have the best injury record.
This transfer would be extremely complicated and this is why I feel the deal won’t happen.
Agger would be a good addition with experience but I feel there is a better deal somewhere else.
