German international star Marco Reus has emerged as a top transfer target for the Gunners, as Arsène Wenger looks to add another midfielder to the club this season.

The Borussia Dortmund player was reportedly close to joining the club earlier in the summer, but it was revealed that any potential deal was withdrawn after a knee injury ruled the player out of the World Cup.

International Talk

The Metro claims that Reus would be available for £19.8 million next summer, due to a trigger of a release clause in his contract if the North London side are patient enough to wait for him.

Respected German newspaper Welt elaborate that Arsenal are the favourites to sign the player, but maintain that the club may decide not to pursue his signature before deadline day this month.

English reports tend to disagree though, with the Daily Mail believing that Manchester United and Liverpool have been courting the player, while European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will enquire about Reus’ services.

Versatile Decisions

Following the signings of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers, Arsène Wenger is excited at the prospect of building a team worthy of the league title next campaign.

At 25-years-old, Reus gives Arsenal a player at the peak of his powers, while he still has potential to add to his impressive 30 goals in 62 appearances for Dortmund.

With Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Jack Wilshere under scrutiny for their on-pitch discipline, Sami Khedira and William Carvalho have also been added to Wenger’s shortlist alongside Reus.

One of Many

The arrival of Reus would make a lot of supporters excited, as the prospect of adding another world renowned German could only benefit the morale and quality of the entire squad.

Nevertheless, at a hefty price tag, the club must be sure that he is exactly the player they need and not another one of many in an already busy squad set-up at the Emirates.
