With only one week left before the start of the season, Arsenal are looking to complete any potential deals early to avoid a deadline day scramble for signings.
Arsène Wenger has set his sights on signing another striker, after coming under extreme pressure from supporters to add a world class forward who can help the club improve on their fourth place finish of last year.
New Eduardo
The Metro claim that Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas has told the Italian club that he wants to leave, after not fully settling in despite two years at the Serie A side.
With his Chilean teammate Alexis Sanchez already at the Gunners, the 24-year-old would bring experience and versatility to the club, while being economical at a price tag of £10 million.
Cost a bargain
The same newspaper also reveals that Brazilian forward Douglas Costa may be brought in through a loan deal, which would suit all parties as the player looks to exit Shakhtar Donetsk.
Able to play as a creative midfielder, Wenger sees him as a stopgap player to take the pressure off Olivier Giroud, while giving Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell the chance to grow during domestic competitions.
Smoking deal
In terms of departures, under fire midfielder Jack Wilshere is thought to be a serious candidate as a replacement for Juventus superstar Arturo Vidal.
The Standard report that the Italian club have sent out agents to England to enquire on the 22-year-olds status and would be willing to launch a bid this summer.
With Arsenal recently revealing that they see Wilshere with a long-term future at the club, it is unlikely that this move will go ahead in the foreseeable future.
Catalan Captain
One man who is certainly on his way out of North London is non-playing captain Thomas Vermaelen, who will be on his way to Barcelona for an approximate fee of £15 million.
The Daily Mail claim that Vermaelen was set to join Manchester United, but Arsenal officials were not willing to go ahead with a deal that did not include a player swap deal, specifically for Chris Smalling.
This will result in the Gunners looking out for another centre-back, despite Calum Chambers arriving from Southampton for £16 million last month.
A long way to go
Arsenal will need to sign a couple more players to make sure that they have enough squad depth in order to win the league next season.
However, the club will now be on a budget restraint, but will still be on the lookout for any deals that suit all parties.
