Arsenal could be set to add a new defender to their ranks with rumours building that Olympiakos ace Kostas Manolas could make a switch to the Emirates.
The central defender has attracted interest from Juventus, Napoli and Roma according to TuttoJuve, however, they believe the Gunners could have the edge over the Italian sides.
Positive relationship?
Arsene Wenger’s team have a healthy relationship with the Greek outfit, due to loaning Joel Campbell to them last season and this could become a factor in any possible deal.
Olympiakos would be willing to work with Arsenal again over a transfer and it could mean that they make a much needed defensive signing.
Following the sale of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona, a new central defender is required and Manolas could be the perfect man for the job.
New defender needed
Wenger now has only six defenders at the club and must sign another centre back to ensure we don’t go into the new campaign short at the back.
Arsenal have been linked with bigger names such as Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Liverpool’s Daniel Agger.
However, a move for Manolas would make sense and considering the Olympiakos defender is only 23, therefore he would have plenty of time to improve and adapt in the Premier League as a fourth choice option.
Transfer fee…
No reported transfer fee has been forthcoming but the Greek side rate the defender highly therefore a bidding war could occur with the Italian clubs should Arsenal continue to keep tabs on the youngster.
But with Wenger needing another defender and the Gunners having a good relationship with Olympiakos, the signs are positive regarding the club adding another defender.
