Portuguese footballer William Carvalho is on Arsene Wenger’s wishlist as the Arsenal boss looks to add one more signing to his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Gunners manager is aiming to add a player able to play as a central defender and the versatility of the Sporting Lisbon ace could see him move to the Emirates.

No move despite interest

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with various big name clubs this summer, including league rivals Manchester United. However, no move has of yet been forthcoming and Arsenal could now steal a march on their rivals.

The Telegraph believe Carvalho is regarded by Arsenal as a player that is able to do a composed job as a central midfielder and defensively.

The youngster could compete with the various players available in the centre of midfielder, should he sign, whilst also cover at centre back during the early congested part of the season.

Encouraging 2013/14 season

In Liga Sagres last season, Carvalho scored four times in 29 appearances and picked up eight bookings to demonstrate his tenacity in the tackle.

With the season fast approaching and Arsenal only having six defensive options available, a new addition is required at the Emirates.

A move for Carvalho would represent another big money signing though and whether Wenger is brave enough to splash more cash remains to be seen.

Fans have been surprised by his willingness to spend this summer but surely one more big signing couldn’t occur, could it?
