Arsenal and Chelsea have been chasing the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira all summer but the previously ongoing saga is almost certainly over now.
The 2014 World Cup winner has been linked with both Premier League sides and the two clubs seemed close to signing the German on various occasions during the transfer window.
Ancelotti has his say
However, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has now ruled out allowing the defensive midfielder to leave Spain when he addressed the media recently.
The Metro quoted Ancelotti, he said:
“He’s not leaving, he’s a Real Madrid player.
“He has a contract until June 30, 2015 and that’s all there is to say.”
A strong message from the former Chelsea boss and it means Arsene Wenger can rule Khedira out of his potential new additions to the Arsenal squad.
The Gunners are looking to make one more signing before the transfer window shuts and Wenger will now need to reassess his options with the German international certainly not available.
Still hope for a deal in the future?
This may not be the complete end of the deal though because as Ancelotti alluded too, Khedira’s contract runs out next summer.
Therefore the German could be available on a free next year should he choose not to renew his current contract, for the time being though Arsenal fans will have to be come to terms with the fact that this German isn’t moving to the Emirates just yet.
After it appeared so close earlier in the summer that will be a tough pill to swallow for the Gunners faithful.
