Arsenal are interested in bringing Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote to the Emirates following speculation he is looking to leave St James’ Park.
The Ivory Coast ace has become unhappy in the north East in recent months and with Arsene Wenger a big fan, he could move for the midfielder according to the Metro.
The Gunners manager wants to add a defensive midfielder to his squad and Tiote could be the man to fill the void.
Other clubs interested in Tiote
Two Russian clubs are keen on the Newcastle ace and it is believed his current club would prefer to sell abroad.
The Metro believe Newcastle will sell the Ivorian for £8 million and with that in mind, the Daily Mirror report that Arsenal are preparing a bid in that region.
The Mirror believe Tiote is said to be keen on a move to the Emirates and that isn’t the only defensive midfielder in the Premier League that Wenger is looking to sign.
QPR flop coming to Emirates?
In an extraordinary transfer story from the Daily Star, they report Arsenal are looking to sign Queens Park Rangers flop Stephane Mbia.
The 28-year-old has been released by QPR, after spending last season on loan at Sevilla, and could now move to the Emirates.
Wenger has acknowledged that the midfielder could be a cheap solution for his problems in midfield and defence, although his wage demands of £60,000 a week are likely to raise some eyebrows, especially amongst fans.
Mixed news on Reus
The Daily Star also have some positive news on Arsenal’s chase for Marco Reus as Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race for the Borussia Dortmund star.
Bayern boss Pep Guardiola confirmed that his club wouldn’t be signing any more forwards, ruling out a move for Reus to Munich.
Guardiola said: “We have eight strikers – too many. I do not need new players. I am delighted with this squad.”
However, Borussia Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke has again instead that Reus will not leave this summer to put any possible deal in limbo.
Watzke said: “We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave.”
Howedes not looking to leave
Meanwhile Arsenal target Benedikt Howedes has reiterated his desire to remain in the Bundesliga with Schalke, therefore another negative in Wenger’s chase for a new recruit.
HITC Sport quoted the German World Cup winner on his future, he said:
"There are always rumours, especially if you have become a world champion.
"But I played for at Schalke for 13 years and would not be here for so long if I did not love this club. Therefore, I am not currently working on such topics [personal discussions with Arsenal]."
