Arsenal look set to cut ties with one of their German internationals after it was revealed by Goal.com that Arsene Wenger is willing to let Lukas Podolski leave the club.
The 29-year-old moved to the Gunners in 2012 but has failed to establish himself as one of the first names on the team sheet and could now depart the Emirates.
The German only featured prominently towards the end of the 2013/14 campaign, despite numerous injuries to attackers throughout the season, and with reinforcements added to Wenger’s squad during the summer it is expected that Podolski’s chances of starting will diminish even more.
Goal.com understand the German is the only senior player that will be allowed to leave during the final weeks of the transfer window.
German and Turkish clubs interested
There is interest from clubs in Germany and Turkey with Galatasaray and Besiktas among the teams linked with Podolski’s signature.
Wenger is understand to want £11 million for the attacker, the same amount he paid in 2012 for the World Cup winner.
It is believed that the Gunners boss doesn’t think Podolski has the physical power and technical ability to spearhead the Arsenal attack this season.
Contribution not missed too much?
With numerous options available to Wenger in attack it makes sense for Podolski to be moved on and if anybody is willing to bid the aforementioned figure then it could be a good deal for the Emirates outfit.
The German scored eight Premier League goals last season, in just 20 appearances, however with Alexis Sanchez signed plus Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain close to full fitness his contribution shouldn’t be missed too much.
Although many fans have been pleased with Podolski it seems the time is right for him to leave and we know wait and see whether he is moved on before the window shuts in a few weeks time.
