Rumours that Arsenal are in “deep” talks for William Carvalho have surfaced again over in Portugal, with newspaper O Jogo claiming that Sporting Lisbon have dropped their valuation of the young star.
Arsenal have been constantly linked with the 22-year-old and there have supposedly been constant negotiations for over a month now, seemingly rendering the deal dead in the water as far as the wanting fans are concerned.
However every now and again there is a spike in interest and yet again the Gunners are the frontrunners in the debacle. Although Manchester United have also rumoured interest, along with Chelsea (who are after everybody anyway), Arsenal have always been the suggested destination for the Portuguese international.
Carvalho has 6 caps for his country including one and a half appearances at this summer’s World Cup, where Arsene Wenger was lurking in search of talent.
Promising claims have now suggested that Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho is willing to accept an offer around the €30m mark, which is below what the Primeira Liga club were asking initially. It seems that 13 years of negotiations might actually get the club somewhere in this never ending deal.
Sporting are set to ask for something in return in the way of players, with Wenger thankfully looking to shift some deadwood from the ranks. Francis Coquelin, Ryo Miyaichi, Yaya Sanogo and Serge Gnabry are all potential candidates although the latter two are supposedly key for the future.
Should the talks go on much longer, the Arsenal negotiations team may have to pack up and look elsewhere, and top of that backup list seems to be the familiar face of Luis Gustavo.
Gustavo looked set to join last summer in the midst of the Mesut Ozil transfer, however chose a move to Wolfsburg instead. After his disappointing World Cup with home nation Brazil, Gustavo could be available for a lower fee than the £14million the Bundesliga side paid.
Outbound Lukas Podolski looks certain to return to his native Germany and Wolfsburg have been quoted as potential suitors, opening the door for an opportunistic swoop.
Either way, both these deals have rumbled on too long and it would be important to get them completed soon.
