Arsene Wenger could be set to make a sensational late dash to sign Monaco hitman Radamel Falcao, following news that forward Olivier Giroud could be out until Christmas.

The French forward injured his ankle against Everton on Saturday in the dying seconds of the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

Giroud sidelined for three months

The Gunners are waiting to discover the extent of Giroud’s injury but a scan has indicated there could be a fracture, which would mean he is out for at least three months.

A specialist is yet to see the Arsenal striker but he is expected to rule the Frenchman out until the end of the year.

If that is the case then Wenger would need to find an adequate replacement, as the Gunners surely couldn’t challenge on a domestic and European front with just two first choice forwards – Alexis Sanchez and Yaya Sanogo.

New striker required?

Therefore the Emirates club are now on the look-out for another striker that can help them remain with the chasing pack, whilst Giroud is out injured.

The Daily Telegraph believe Colombian international Falcao could be available on a season-long loan deal. Sources in France has also suggested the striker would be interested in moving to England with the club.

£20 million for Falcao

However, Monaco are apparently demanding a fee of £20 million if Arsenal want to loan the forward for a year.

That seems like a incredible amount of money just for a season-long loan and although Falcao’s goalscoring record is sensational whether Wenger would be willing to spend to that much remains to be seen.

Other targets…

Other targets include Manchester United attacker Danny Welbeck, who is apparently out of favour at Old Trafford.

Whilst previous target Loic Remy, of Queens Park Rangers, could again come under consideration after Wenger was linked with the France striker during the World Cup.

All this hinges on how long Giroud is out for but should he miss the next few months you can be certain that Wenger will bring one forward into the club, whether it is Falcao or not remains to be seen.
