Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of Queens Park Rangers forward Loic Remy is not as advanced as we first expected.

All the signs were pointing towards a move to the Emirates for the World Cup striker, after he showed his love for the gunners by watching their defeat of West Brom at the Emirates last year. That coupled with Wenger’s French connection should have been enough to complete a move which seemed like a perfect opportunity for both parties.

However BBC Journalist David Ornstein revealed at 2:30AM this morning that Arsenal are yet to come anywhere near Remy’s release clause, and that late-comers Chelsea are indeed closer to signing the man who spent last season on loan at Newcastle United.

@bbcsport_david “#AFC haven't met Remy release clause but are in conversations with #QPR about rivalling #CFC for him - IF they let a forward go #bbcfootball”

That seemed like bad news – however not disastrous. There may be no deal on the table, however there are talks being held and Arsenal would surely be the better option for the 27-year-old?

It seems not.  Just half an hour later Ornstein was back on Twitter to destroy dreams once again…

@bbcsport_david “#AFC have dropped Remy interest. Enquired but no longer pursuing. Currently not close to any signings before deadline #QPR #CFC #bbcfootball”

It seems that unless the backroom Arsenal staff can perform miracles, we won’t be seeing any new strikers at the Emirates any time soon.
