The 2014 summer transfer window is closed and Arsenal have made some decent acquisitions.
Arsenal bought five players in which all have quality to take this team forward. The signings are as everybody knows Sanchez, Debuchy, Chambers, Ospina and deadline day signing Welbeck.
In total Arsenal spent £82 million and received £25.7 meaning they spent £56.3 net. Which shows they spent money and were 2nd across Europe for net spend. This shows significant improvement.
The transfer window was good for most parts which I would rate a solid 7 out of 10 Sanchez has shown glimpses of quality and looks like he will find the back of the net as well as creating.
Debuchy also looks solid which has allowed fans have forget Sagna already.
Chambers was thought to be one for the future but has shown quality right from the off showing that he will compete for a first team place. Ospina had a good world cup and will push Szczęsny all the way.
Arsenal’s last signing Danny Welbeck arrived on deadline day and has received mixed reaction. For me, Welbeck will prove to be a good signing. At Arsenal he will improve and score goals. This optimism is shared by Arsenal fan Piers Morgan
“I bet Welbeck scores more goals than Falcao this season.” Morgan was then challenge by a fan which he then replied “how much” showing his confidence.
The transfer window would have scored higher but Wenger didn’t replace an outgoing Vermaelen what doesn’t make sense and didn’t address that defensive midfield area. He came close to securing William Carvalho but 7-8 million euros separated the two clubs.
Finally, I would like to see our formation go back to 4-2-3-1. This system is perfect for Arsenal’s personnel as Welbeck can play up front with Sanchez and Walcott wide which then allows Ӧzil to play in his favoured central attacking midfield role. This way we can get the best out of him as he doesn’t look comfortable on the left.
Overall, Wenger addressed one key problem of last year and that was the lack of pace. Arsenal now look like a quick team with Welbeck, Walcott, Sanchez and Oxlade- Chamberlain.
