Aaron Ramsey guided Arsenal to a mind-boggling 4-1 victory over Galatasaray at Turk Telekom Arena with a brace, including a thunderous goal. The Gunners, thus, finished their group stages on a high note finishing below Borussia Dortmund on goal difference.

Paul Merson, who currently plies his trade as television football pundit believes that Aaron Ramsey’s brace against a below par Galatasaray side is what the Welshman needed to recuperate following an obvious dip this season.

He emphasized on confidence, which the Welsh international needs in plethora to reflect his sublime performances last season. The 46-year-old also made reference to Arsenal players’ perpetual exodus to Barcelona hinting sneakily that the midfielder may end up at Camp Nou, if he picks up form.

“He is the type of lad that can go and score six in six, without a doubt. It’s all about confidence and we’ve seen that he can do it – he’s a really, really good player. If he had reached the heights of last season he’d be playing for Barcelona. That’s how high and how good he was.”

Merson also stated that Aaron Ramsey was the only player, who was at par with Luis Suarez, who was deemed the best player in England last season.

“I thought he was the best midfield player in the country last year – probably the best player in the country at one stage, with Luis Suarez, until he got injured.”

Ramsey was widely slated for messing things up and Paul Merson came up for the rescue asserting that his accomplishment last season can never be compared.

“He takes a lot of stick and the reason is, I think, because of how well he did last year. He’s not going to live up to what he did last season, in my opinion. Everything he touched went in. He did very well, out of all the others, he got all the goals.”

He also advised the 23-year-old not to succumb to the temptation of finding the back of the net time and again as he told that Aaron Ramsey has tried too hard to score goals lately.

“I thought he was pushing too much – always looking to get forward, getting in front of the ball instead of travelling from behind it. I know this sounds silly, but he’s tried too hard to score goals.”
