However, Sporting boss Marco Silva concedes the player could be Premier League bound in January.
"William is a target for English teams, but I want him to play his game," Silva said.
"He's not playing at the same level as last season because last season he was a surprise, but he's improving. William has many offers. Let's wait till January."
While it's clear Arsenal need improvements in deep midfield, Carvalho would seem to be an ideal long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta (32) whose season has been on and off due to various injuries and Flamini isn’t up for the job against the big teams.
Arsenal need reinforcements in January, and quality ones at that, not just bargains.
The likes of William Carvalho could really lift the season for the Gunners who are currently 6th in the Premier League.
