Ray Parlour, speaking to Sportlobster, suggested that Arsene Wenger should buy a player or two to seal a Champions League berth next season.
Arsenal's chances of battling with Chelsea and Manchester City has been hampered by the influx of injuries that the Gunners have sustained over the course of the season. To counterfeit the misfortunes, the former Gunners legend has put forward two names, who have the aptitude to save the sinking ship.
The Englishman also stated that the Arsenal manager should not fall for hype that surrounds mediocre players.
"Winston Reid has been mentioned, but I’m not sure he’s the quality we need."
He heaped praise on Borussia Dortmund stalwart Mats Hummels, who may want a move away from Westfalenstadion at the back of a poor season with the German outfit.
"Mats Hummels would be great, a world cup winner and a good player."
Arsène Wenger was also widely slated for not signing a defensive midfielder and he seems to be paying the price for the same now. The former England midfielder has named Morgan Schneiderlin as the potential January signing for the Emirates Stadium club.
"For midfield, I would go for Morgan Schneiderlin if you can get him. He’s at a good age. Lots of players are linked. Sami Khedira would have been great. Players that have played in big games won’t be phased by anything. Schneiderlin hasn’t, but I can see him improving."
The 41-year-old believes that anything less than fourth spot would see Arsène Wenger call it a day.
"The team are still in the Champions League and could finish third or fourth. If we finish outside of the top four, without a trophy, it might be time for him to be moved on."
Speaking of potential candidates to replace the Frenchman at the helm, the Romford born midfielder came up with two names including Jurgen Klopp, who has a long history of being linked with Arsenal.
"Jurgen Klopp is having a bad time this season, but someone of his calibre is needed. He changes his tactics and has been in the Champions League before. Roma’s Rudi Garcia is another good manager."
