Loic Perrin who plays for French club Saint Etienne may be the incoming centre back to solve Arsenal’s lack of defenders. Perrin is the current captain of the French club and maybe available for as little as £6 million which may make the deal a possibility.

Perrin is a versatile player who can play in numerous positions such as full back, centre back and even defensive midfield. Further to this he would also be eligible for the champion’s league as Saint Etienne did not qualify which is a bonus considering targets such as Hummels would be cup tied.

Wenger is keen to sign a centre back so that responsibility can be taken off Calum Chambers as the main back up. This comes after Wenger spoke about over using Chambers;

“For a 19-year-old, he has played too many games. They all hit the wall after 15-17 games. You have to give them a breather. To have that level of responsibility in every single game is a lot at that age.”

This deal would make a sense as it would give additional backup to main defenders, take pressure off Chambers and is a relatively cheap deal to do in a massively inflated market.

If Perrin is the choice then we will have to back him.

Other players which Wenger may consider are Tyrone Mings and Winston Reid. However, being a 3rd choice centre back is not the best selling point which ultimately was the reason Vermaelen left.
