Winston Reid is on the list of potential transfers for Arsenal this January and it may be a viable option. Reid who is out of contract in the summer may be an incoming defender at the Emirates.

Arsenal have proved once again this season that there defence is weak when challenged and short when it comes to injuries. Look no further, Winston Reid maybe the answer however, Arsenal will have to face competition from Liverpool who themselves need a commanding defender.

According, to the Metro and other newspapers Reid is refusing to sign a new deal at the club which means he may be on the move this January. Additionally, West Ham also announced a signing of a centre back today which may make this move even more viable. The signing has definitely added fuel to the fire and sparked more rumours.

Winston Reid would be a very shred signing by Wenger if it was to happen. A current international defender who has premier league experience at a cut price deal is no brainer surely. Premier league experience is key as this means there would be no adaptation period which is a bonus as he could come straight into the team.

However, the only one reservation I would have is, can he step up to champion’s league football. Reid in my opinion would be a stop gap option to get us through this season and be a backup to the main defenders which in turn would cause another problem. Would Reid be happy to sit on the bench?

Hopefully Wenger can pull the deal off to provide cover and potentially replace a poor Mertesacker this season.
