According to the Daily Mirror Arsene Wenger is about to step up his chase for a new goalkeeper, mainly Chelsea’s Petr Cech. This news comes off the back of Wojciech Szczesny’s horror show at St.Mary’s which lead to Arsenals 2-0 defeat to Southampton.
The Daily Mirror is claiming that Arsenal are preparing a bid of around £7million for the Czech Republic International. Cech has been frozen out of the current Chelsea squad with Belgian ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois taking the no.1 spot at the club leaving Cech to warm the bench. There have been various rumours of Cech’s frustration at this so a move from the club does seem likely.
Cech’s agent encouraged the Gunners, to snap up the Czech Republican in the Summer rather than in January claiming:
“It’s unlikely Petr will leave Chelsea in the January transfer window. The club and coach want to keep him to help win the title. I think Arsenal should have made an offer to him. I think Petr would be considering it.”
Cech,32, is an incredibly experienced ‘keeper and his ability is tremendous, evident by his 100+ clean sheets throughout his Chelsea career. A general in the box would be ideal to help bolster the Gunners’ defence and Cech certainly fits the bill.
Arsenal, however, recently brought in the Columbian ace David Ospina following his fantastic display at the World Cup in Brazil. Following his run of injuries it is presumed that he will get a run out against Hull City in the third round of the FA Cup. A good display in that match and Wenger may not feel the need to bring in another shotstopper.
Mourinho’s wariness to sell to rival clubs is highly noted, however, following his £37.1million sale of Juan Mata to United , this may just give an indication of a changed transfer policy. Does this give the Gunners a chance to snap up the Chelsea‘ keeper in what would be a sensational move?
