Wojciech Szczęsny’s future is in doubt after an alleged bust up in the dressing room following the defeat to Southampton. Rumours have been circulating on Danish TV about his future after former Arsenal player John Jenson spoke out. This was then published in a series of tweets which I will summarise.
Apparently there was a bust up in the dressing room which Wenger responded by saying Szczęsny had played his last game for Arsenal this season. However, it is known to relevant people that Jenson is not a big fan of the Arsenal keeper meaning this could be incorrect. However, it is almost certain that an episode did occur. Jenson receives his information from former colleague and friend Steve Bould and is in regular contact.
The Arsenal keep has also had a huge fine to pay after his antics in the dressing room. This bust may have occurred due to the reaction of Szczesny after conceding the 2nd where it can be seen him just having a drink.
Additionally, according to Sport Witness Szczesny is love drunk which was reported within the Polish press and may be a reason for his lack of form.
In my opinion if an incident has occurred then the Arsenal keeper will need to be dealt with. David Ospina dealt with everything that came his way yesterday although his work was minimal and will be ready to take his chance.
Ospina will feel that this is his chance after a poor showing by Szczesny on New Year ’s Day. The main problem with Szczesny is that he is arrogant and believes he is the best goalkeeper in the world and wants to be Manuel Neuer. However, he is not as good and just needs to put in the hard work and become the keeper many people believe he can be.
The comment made by Arsene Wenger has not been confirmed but we will soon find out. We will know if there is some truth in the rumour especially if Ospina lines up against Stoke. Although when Wenger was pressed on the keeper after the Southampton game Wenger replied;
“I don’t want to talk about [him].”
This may suggest that words were said in the dressing room but Wenger is good at one thing and that is protecting his players from the scrutiny of the media.
