Following Arsenal’s 2-0 victory against Hull yesterday, Arsene Wenger gave an update on any injuries within the camp.
Arsenal have been struggling with the lack of fit players in the squad with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Abou Diaby, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Falmini all injured, leaving Arsenal’s midfield looking sparse. These injuries have even seen the likes of Calum Chambers put into a defensive midfield role at St. Mary’s last week.
When asked about player availability for the game against Stoke City at the weekend, Wenger replied;
“Mathieu Flamini could be back, Aaron Ramsey has a little chance. Nobody else.”
“Mikel Arteta will be longer. I think Flamini should be available for selection and maybe Ramsey has a little chance to be back.”
It appears Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is okay following the recent injury he picked up against Hull City last night and could well be in the squad this weekend. Chamberlain suffered what looked a bad injury following a poor, ill-timed challenge by Curtis Davies in the FA Cup third round tie, so this news will come as a relief to the Gunners boss.
No update was given on Costa Rica international Joel Campbell, however, after he appeared to tweak a muscle towards the end of the game, asking to be substituted off.
Former Charlton loanee, Francis Coquelin has excelled during the current injury crisis at Arsenal, however. Since returning from loan, Coquelin has been a key
figure in the last few games, in a defensive midfield role for the Gunners. Coquelin has made six consecutive appearances for the club since his return and this recent show of form has received praise from the Arsenal manager:
“I think he’s a satisfaction over the Christmas period. Francis has done well in all the three games he’s played over the Christmas period. He’s matured a lot and he’s very strong in the fight. I would say I have a very positive impression of his last three games.”
