Santi Cazorla is certainly on form for the Gunners at the moment, so much in fact he was named PFA player of the month. Cazorla scored four goals this month helping the Gunners in a month full of injuries and suspensions.
In a recent interview with Arsenal Magazine, Cazorla has been speaking about how his playing position has helped his form and creativity, helping create chances for the Gunners. The long awaited return of World Cup winner Mesut Ozil is on the mouth of many Arsenal fans and Cazorla has also accepted the fact he may have to play back out on the wing, once the German returns to the starting line-up.
“I love playing centrally,” Cazorla stated.
“It means I have a bit more freedom. I’m more able to help my team-mates. At the end of the day, I’m happy to help my team-mates and manager wherever – I’m happy whether I play centrally or on the wing.”
Cazorla’s scoring rate has also increased this season following his slightly underwhelming performances last season that were plagued with injury. He spoke of his hunger in front of goal:
”I really wanted to score again,”, “I’ve had a lot of chances this year but for one reason or another – either bad luck or because I’ve missed by inches – I’ve not scored many. I want to help the team by scoring more goals so hopefully the penalty against Stoke and the two against Newcastle can help me to do that.”
The 30 year old Spanish international was asked if his age was becoming a factor in the latter stages of games, to which he replied:
“I feel good and don’t need to change anything,”, “Of course, as the years go by the body changes, but right now there’s no specific problem that’s going to force me to change the way I work on a day-to-day basis. I’m going to carry on as I am until something means I can’t do that anymore.”
To me Cazorla is becoming a bit like a fine wine, with age he seems to improve and that’s just what the Gunners need right now to see them through this rocky period for the club.
