Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was at the Arsenal training ground today for a visit and Joel Campbell released a photo with the talismanic striker on his Instagram account with the caption:
“Con uno de los más grandes “el Titi ” #idolo #henry” which, when translated into English, means “With one of the greatest “Titi” #Idol #Henry”.
The jury remains very much out on Joel Campbell. I remember seeing some videos on him before and it was safe to say he looked exciting. Here was this pacey striker with a good showing of power and a decent finisher. I was thinking to myself “Why does Wenger have him out on loan?”
His display at the World Cup in Brazil was very promising for all Arsenal fans as he showed some heart and grit and proved he was up for a fight, being a nuisance for most teams he played against, scoring a few goals in the process.
But, this season, granted he hasn’t had much game time, Campbell has been somewhat underwhelming. I haven’t seen much to be thinking he should be in the team every week. Sure, he made a few good runs against Hull at the weekend but his finishing was awful. His pace has also seemed to have dropped from other displays I have seen from him before.
Has he a future at the club? Definitely. His potential cannot be overlooked, but he isn’t what Arsenal need right now. Arsenal are in the middle of a battle for fourth at the moment and can’t be trying to develop youngster as every game is important from here on in.
A loan spell could be just what he needs and it seems as though it may happen, according to earlier reports.
If Campbell can be like his friend in the photo “Titi” remains to be seen but there are similarities. When Henry came to the club he was pacey, strong and made some great runs however it took him a while to find the net but when he did, he didn’t stop for about 8 years!
Campbell looks to be leaving on loan and that could be just what he needs for his confidence and to prove Gooners out there he has what it takes at this club.
