Media outlets are reporting that Arsenal have switched their attention to Mario Mandzukic of Athletic Madrid instead of Edinson Cavani.
Mandzukic formerly of Bayern Munich was of intense speculation back then to join Arsenal but opted for Spain instead however, it now looks like Arsenal may be interested again.
Mandzukic believes his place maybe under threat since the return of Fernando Torres to the Vincente Calderon.
Mandzukic is valued at £25 million and has adapted well to life in Spain notching up six goals in 13 appearances.
Although Mandzukic cannot be classed as world class pedigree he is a very good player. He is likened to Olivier Giroud although it is often believed he is a better finisher.
This change in target has come after Arsenal believe the signing of Cavani would prove too costly which they cannot afford in January however, Wenger still remains interested in the Uruguayan striker.
Money was always going to be the issue in the potential Cavani transfer and that’s how it looks like it might end.
Although, Mandzukic would be an adequate signing and strengthen this team, there is a part of me which thinks we need a different type of striker.
However, it has been clear this season that we have missed the pivot of Giroud which therefore, could mean Wenger wants other options with players of that ilk.
