Sky Sports today have published the latest set of figures regarding club’s wage bills. Although, it is applied to Chelsea in most parts it also lets viewers know what Arsenal’s wage bill is.
It may come to no surprise that Manchester United’s wage bill is the highest which currently stands at £214.8 million which is followed by Manchester City at £205 million. Chelsea are then ranked third with a wage bill of£190.5 million.
Arsenal are then on the list in 4th with the current wage bill standing at £166.4 million. These figures have been taken from the current accounts which are based on the premier league season 2013 – 2014.
From a business point of view these figures are astronomical but are relatively small when you consider the income of these heavyweight clubs. For example, TV revenue has increased from £34 million to an estimated £139 million which is just one part. If you add shirt sponsorship and other commercial deals to that then income will outweigh expenditure.
In terms of Arsenal, this shows that Arsenal spend big money on wages even though they are often accused of not. The difference is Arsenal pay average players a fair amount of money. The wage bill looks healthy when you consider the wages of current players Ӧzil and Sanchez as well as new deals for Ramsey, Wilshere, and Cazorla etc.
Overall, it seems that in terms of wages Arsenal are positioned about right in the league especially if we finish 4th and shows the amount of spending power Arsenal’s rival have especially if you consider Manchester United’s wage bill. This is not an excuse for finishing fourth as you only have to look at Atletico Madrid who have a low wage bill but managed to win La Liga.
