After being out for three months the German was itching to be back on the pitch, "I worked hard for this moment. As I watched the matches on TV I started to get nervous, because I really wanted to play again.”

The match against Stoke provided a perfect opportunity to give Mesut his first competitive minutes since his injury. The Arsenal was up three nil’ and was dominating the game, Stoke wasn’t doing much to cause us threat.

At the 73rd minute Ozil was used as a substitute for Giroud. The German looked hungry to get back to action as he came on but understandably Ozil wasn’t 100 percent.

"I am happy, that I could play a couple of minutes. Of course I am not at 100 percent, I only trained with the team once on Saturday, but I hope that I will be back at 100 percent end of January”.

You could see he was a bit rusty, despite this he still got a good opportunity to score when Santi Cazorla played him beautify into the box, the ball came to his weaker right foot but the shot wasn’t too far off. Overall it was a decent return for Ozil.

But Ozil won’t find it easy to break back into the starting 11 because Santi has been playing a high level being named Arsenal’s best player in December, and is really starting to click with Alexis.

Alexis has been untouchable and the Ox is playing with great quality and purpose, keeping Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell out of the starting 11. So Mesut will have to prove his quality to get back in, which is great for the club to have competition for places.

Luckily we are coming to a busy part of the season having game in The Champions League and in the FA cup, so he’ll have opportunities. But having back is a huge boost for Arsenal, also the return of Aaron Ramsey, and Flamini is great for us as we approach a crucial stage of the season.
