Former Gunners boss George Graham has warned current Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger that the club need a whole new spine if they are to have a chance to win the Premier League.

This comes Arsenal’s lacklustre season which sees them in fifth position, a whole thirteen points behind the Premier League leader Chelsea.

Arsenal have been linked with many defensive and holding players such as Petr Cech, Virgil van Dijk, William Carvalho and Morgan Schneiderlin to name a few so it seems as though pundits and agents are aware of their depleted squad.

Former manager, and player, Graham, believes the current boss needs to bolster in defence especially:

“All Arsenal fans would like to see new players right down the middle,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “They need a new goalkeeper, a centre-half and a defensive midfielder.”

He acknowledged the style of play they have, including their strength in midfield with the likes of Sanchez and Ozil being the star-names on the team sheet:

“With all the talent they’ve got in midfield, they’re up there with the top teams in the league, playing attractive football when they’re in possession.”

He outlined, again, their need for a tough tackler and highlighted their weakness without the ball:

“When they don’t have the ball, though, there are too many players who don’t want to win it back early enough.”

Graham had a respectful win% of 49% as Gunners boss, winning seven major honours for the club in his stint at the club.

The same story has been said by many pundits and fans alike over the last few seasons however Wenger seems ever reluctant to spend the money. Perhaps some persuasion form his predecessor may convince him otherwise.
