It seems that the injury curse has not ended for Arsenal; Mathieu Debuchy could be spending another long period out for the second time this season. The French international was just making his way back from a three month injury at the beginning of the season but it seems that he could be facing up to 3 months out once again.
Debuchy is spending the day with specialist to determine if surgery is required on what is a dislocated shoulder, this of course would determine the length of his absence. Arnautovic has apologized for the unnecessary shove on twitter, and Mark Hughes seconded saying "There was no malice."
So what does this mean for our back four? As for the right back position, it seems Hector Bellerin is really starting to show huge potential, and is the most likely to starter against Man City this coming Sunday. Also Chambers who was absent in game vs Stoke is the other option and probably Wenger’s preferred starter.
We’ve had to deal with having two 19 year olds as our only RB options all season so far and it has worked out so far, except against tougher oppositions Chambers has been dominated by pace a few times. This is a concern for us and where we’ll miss Mathieu Debuchy’s experience the most.
Also only having 6 defenders for 4 positions is a huge concern! Luckily we are in the January transfer window and I think it is vital that Wenger bring in at least one defender, preferably a CB, because Chambers and Bellerin could take care of the right back spot.
We have been linked with the likes of Hummels but a more likely and realistic option is Winston Reid, Arsenal has reportedly put a 3 million pound bid for the West Ham center back. This would be a quality pick up for Arsenal, and with the injury of Debuchy a crucial signing as well.
Now let’s just hope for the best and wish Debuchy a speedy recovery. And if he faces a 3 month lay-off let’s hope Wenger will get much needed reinforcements.
