Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has completed his loan move to Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace following the completion of his medical. The Gunners striker took the advice of Arsene Wenger and joined a Premier League switch, rather than a move to Bordeaux of Ligue 1.
Crystal Palace released the news via twitter:
“Welcome @Yayasanogoal22 from @Arsenal to #cpfc”
The French striker has struggled to make his presence felt at the Emirates this season, scoring just one goal and putting in a number of sub-par performances for the North London side. He has also struggled for game time this season, slipping down the pecking order behind players like Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and now Theo Walcott.
The increased competition up front meant Sanogo’s chances of playing this season for the Gunners was slim.
Is this a good switch? Absolutely.
A switch to Selhurst Park is just what the doctor ordered for Sanogo. He is moving to a side that are definitely lacking up front and he will jump ahead of players like Chamakh to say the least.
He is also moving to a good, aggressive side which will allow him to adapt well to the Premier League. Pardew’s style of play and passing is somewhat similar to that of Wenger’s philosophy so Sanogo should feel fairly comfortable at the club.
Crystal Palace were not the only side in the running for Sanogo however, with an apparent interest from other clubs such as Aston Villa. This news is no surprise for Arsenal fans as a move had been on the cards for some time now due to the lack of opportunities for the striker.
This move reminds me a little of Danny Welbeck’s move to Sunderland. His loan switch was the catalyst in the development of the player and allowed him to break into Alex Ferguson’s United side and now has a prominent role in Arsenal’s attack.
Hopefully Sanogo’s loan will allow him to adapt to English football and we see a new look striker at the Emirates next season.
