Italian forward Mattia Destro has just dropped a major hint he is to leave AS Roma in the near future.

Roma striker Destro has admitted he may have to look to another league to play regular football after falling out of favour in Rome.

Roma manager Rudi Garcia likes to rotate his team to keep them fully fit, however this leads to some players not getting an extended run in the team. Destro, 23, is disenchanted by this; it seems and wishes to move to a club so that he plays more regularly in the first team and not a rotational player.

Destro has only started six games for Roma this season and is becoming increasingly frustrated at his lack of opportunity claims reports.

This news has put the Gunners on alert for the highly rated striker. Arsenal and London rivals, Chelsea, are said to be interested in acquiring the services of the young Italian forward. Destro has only 18 months left on his contract and if he does not want to stay there, perhaps Garcia may wish to cash in on his potential and get a good fee for the striker.

They are not the only teams involved in the chase, with the likes of Italian giants AC Milan being strongly linked to the forward.

Destro has spoken out angrily at how he has been treated by AS Roma, claiming he does not feel utilised:

He said: "Am I like the sixth man in basketball?

"It’s better to be in the first five. I like the comparison, but honestly my ambition is to be among the starters.”

He also made a point of how he works hard when he is on the pitch even though he can’t get much time on it:

"The only thing that doesn’t change is my commitment to give the best in every minute I play”

He noted how challenging it is for young players to make an impact as they aren’t given time to develop on the pitch:

"At 23, you shouldn’t be considered a youngster, but it must be said it’s difficult for young players.

"And there’s something that should make us think - if a young player has a certain level of ability they go abroad”

Arsene Wenger is known for harnessing young potential so perhaps this deal is right up his street. Destro is known for being a good finisher and having great ball control.

In my eyes Arsenal are lacking some killer instinct in the striker position and it always helps to have competition up front.

I doubt this deal will happen if I’m honest but it is certainly an interesting prospect. Let’s see how it develops.
