The transfer window is almost half way over and arsenal have seen players been loaned out and some sold permanently, but none have been brought in yet.

Will Arsenal be active in the remaining time? In the past Arsenal hasn’t been very active in the January window, but with the injury to Mathieu Debuchy who could be out for up to 3 months and Koscielny, Gibbs, and Chambers struggling with recent injuries it’s absolutely crucial for us to get some reinforcement, if not we could be in big trouble.

With 6 defenders to cover 4 positions Arsenal is a bit short on the defensive numbers, Arsenal has been linked with a few centre-backs, not surprisingly.

Matt Hummels was linked early on in the month, that rumour has died down. The recent and more realistic CB who was linked with arsenal is the West Ham man Winston Reid, he’d be a great and economical option, but Arsenal are said to have competition for Reid’s signature.

Other defenders that has had their eyes on are the Mexican Hector Moreno, the Villarreal man Gabriel Paulista, and the Ipswich youngster Tyrone Mings. Signing a defender seems to be a must for Arsenal to have a shot at the top 4.

Arsenal have have also been linked with a few centre-midfielders, with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Diaby out.

Morgan Schneiderlin seems to be the number one option but is very unlikely to leave until the summer. Another top option is Ilkay Gundogan, the German only has 18 months left on his contract with Borussia Dortmund, and could be available for around £16million.

Others on Arsenal’s radar are  Grzegorz Krychowiak and the Mario Suarez from Atletico Madrid. But with the rise Francis Coquelin and the return of Aaron Ramsey and Flamini, not signing a midfielder would not come as a shock.
