Jack Wilshere will be returning earlier than expected, but injury concerns have only become more serious for Arsenal. The Gunners have now lost Mathieu Debuchy and club captain Mikel Arteta to injuries that would keep them both on the sidelines for long.
Mathieu Debuchy became the newest Arsenal player to get injured as he was shoved into advertisement hoardings by Marko Arnautovic.
Arsene Wenger revealed that he had undergone a surgery to his dislocated right shoulder.
“Mathieu had a surgery on his right shoulder following the injury on Sunday. It's very unfortunate for Mathieu; it's unbelievable because he's had two surgeries in the same season.”
The French full-back has featured in ten of the Emirates Stadium club’s twenty-one Premier League outings and his manager confirmed that he’s set to be out of action for three months from now.
“He just came back, he played seven games and he's out again. I count three months out for Mathieu because contact will be a problem for the shoulder.”
Speaking to Arsenal.com, Arsene Wenger earlier revealed that his captain is set for a three-month layoff after undergoing a surgery to his right ankle.
“Mikel has had surgery which went well. His situation meant we had to make the decision to have surgery and it's a proper solution which gives him the best chance to recover.”
Despite the announcement of two serious setbacks, he also had good news that Kieran Gibbs will be hitting the ground as early as Friday. That comes as a boost for his side, who have only five senior defenders.
“Kieran Gibbs will be training again with the squad on Friday and we will see how he goes from there. His news is positive.”
Danny Welbeck is currently nursing his thigh injury and his manager doesn’t see him returning for Sunday’s Premier League game.
“Danny Welbeck is not ready yet, he is still feeling some pain, so we will have to be patient.”
