According to reports, Wenger is in the market for two players, in order to guarantee a top four finish for the side. These two players appear to be a defender and a defensive midfielder.
Speaking on Arsenal’s official website, arsenal.com, Wenger outlined that the Gunners were active in the market this season:
“Yes we are more in the market now. We have Chambers and we have Bellerin, who is coming on well, and I want to give them a chance as well, but of course we are in the market like many other clubs.”
“We work really hard morning until late night to try to get one or two players in.”
Arsenal have been frail at the back all season and it is of no surprise that Wenger has decided that position needs strengthening. The Gunners have had countless setbacks in defence this season with the likes of Debuchy, Gibbs, Koscielny and Arteta all taking time out due to injury. Other players have also underperformed and have been inconsistent this season, such as Mertesacker and Mathieu Flamini.
There have been many targets for Arsenal this window in regards to a midfielder with players such as German international Ilkay Gundogan and Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho. Arsenal are also on their way to securing the services of you seventeen year old Krystian Bielik, according to latest reports.
In defence the Gunners have also been linked with a number of players. West Ham’s Winston Reid is the player who seems most likely to be signed however, Hammers boss Sam Allerdyce does not want him to leave until the summer so that may be a sticking point.
Arsenal have also been linked to Ipswich’s Tyrone Mings however not much has been said other than there was interest a few weeks back.
Who knows who Wenger will sign this window, if anybody, but let’s just hope he gives the fans what they were asking for.
