According to The Telegraph, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is resigned to the fact that Chelsea goalkeeper, Petr Cech, is on the verge of joining Arsenal. This comes following a report that the Czech international would rather a move to North London as opposed to a move to Merseyside.
“Although Rodgers would love to sign Petr Cech from Chelsea, there is a feeling that he has already decided to remain in London and is more likely to head to Arsenal.”
News is circulating that this could in fact be true following Arsenal’s keeper Szczesny being dropped to the bench.
Cech has been linked away from the Blues after Thibaut Courtois returned from loan at Atletico Madrid to oust the Czech from between the sticks.
Cech is certainly a player of great calibre. Since his stay at Chelsea, Cech has won two League Cups, a Champions League, four FA Cups and three Premier League titles. However the Czech was limited to only three appearances this season.
The Gunners have been linked to Chelsea a few weeks ago however Wenger was quick to play down rumours that linked Cech to the Emirates. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was also adamant that Cech would be staying at Stamford Bridge this season.
By the sounds of it, there may be new developments in the Cech transfer story but I still can’t see the transfer going through. Chelsea have already let one ‘keeper go this window and I cannot see them letting another one go, especially one of such high calibre.
Would it be a good signing? Absolutely. Cech is the commander we need in and around the box to help organise the defence. His calming presence would also be a relief to see for Arsenal fans who hold their breath anytime a ball bounces in the Arsenal box.
Cech, at 32, still has a lot of football left in him. Even if players like Ospina, Szczesny and Martinez were training with him, they would gain bags of experience. I would like this deal to go through but it’s a long shot.
