Former Manchester United manager, David Moyes, has his eyes on young Arsenal striker Joel Campbell to help strengthen his lacklustre Sociedad attack, according to The Mirror.
According to this source, Moyes is waiting on a response over the player’s availability after making contact with the Gunners, with interest of for the striker.
Real Sociedad have struggled in front of goal this season scoring only 11 goals in the last 11 games and leaving them close to being dragged into a relegation scrap. At the moment they lie 12th in the league, however they are only 3 points off the relegation zone which leaves Moyes in a precarious spot. The former Toffees manager believes that Campbell would be the perfect acquisition to help his side to safety in La Liga.
According to writer Neil Moxey of the Sunday People Moyes is also interested in English Leagues players such as Roberto Soldado and Jordan Rhodes of Blackburn. It seems as though the young Costa-Rican is top of his wish list this window and is hoping Wenger will agree to the move, allowing Campbell to make the switch to Spanish football.
Campbell is no stranger to La Liga as the 22 year-old had a loan spell at Real Betis in the 2012/2013 season, making 28 appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals. His displays in Spain attracted the likes of Olympiakos who took the player on loan the season after, giving him some Champions League experience in the process.
Campbell’s display at the Fifa World Cup in Brazil is apparently a key reason why Moyes is so interested in the striker. The striker himself has been left frustrated by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as he has been left on the bench and given few chances to shine for the Gunners.
Perhaps Wenger will let this deal go through or he may want to do what he did with Sanogo and wait for a Premier League side to make an offer for the young striker to give him Premier League experience.
