Fresh reports this morning are claiming that the Gunners are putting together a bid for PSG superstar Edinson Cavani.
Reports from Tutto Mercato Web are claiming that Arsenal are ready to try and sign the Uruguayan international. Wenger is looking to add a new attacking threat to his squad and it has become apparent that Cavani is his top stacking target.
Cavani has been showing some form as he leads the PSG attack, covering for the injured Zlatan Ibrahimović, scoring 14 goals in all competitions this season. Cavani has been left somewhat frustrated throughout the season however as he has been forced to play out of position and let Zlatan play through the centre.
Arsenal have let a number of attacking options leave the club this window, with both Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo leaving on loan with Joel Campbell looking likely to follow. With Danny Welbeck injured, Wenger is short of central strikers and it seems as though he is hoping that Cavani will fill that gap.
Arsenal are on the back of an unexpected 2-0 victory away to Manchester City, and it looks as though Wenger wants to show Arsenal’s title credentials by signing this top striker. According to reports, the Gunners are preparing a £45million for the South American.
The North London side aren’t the only club interested in Cavani however, with Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United reportedly interested to sign him in the summer following the poor form shown by Radamel Falcao.
Arsenal could well beat United to the punch and sign the striker this window and stop a bidding war between the clubs, driving the price up. Hopefully Wenger makes an attempt this striker as it would certainly boost our attacking options along with putting us firmly in the title picture.
