Arsenal have tabled a bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Kevin Grosskreutz, according to The Metro.
The bid is believed to be in the region of £3.7million for the services of the German international.
Grosskreutz would be a very useful addition to the Gunners as he is known to be a utility player for Borussia Dortmund. He is capable of playing defensive midfield or on either side of midfield. He has also been known to play at right back, if needed so he would certainly work as an excellent cover for Arsenal’s injury plagued squad.
Grosskreutz has not really been a regular for Jürgen Klopp’s side this year, in a season which has seen them severely struggle in the Bundes Liga and are currently lying 17th in the table, 1 from the bottom. The form of Dortmund is clearly shocking for most fans that saw them push Bayern Munich hard in the Champions League final a few years ago.
Grosskreutz has earned 5 caps for the German national side since his international debut in 2010. He has made only 15 appearances this season, which is down from his total of 33 appearances last year. Perhaps his lack of game time may help the Gunners acquire his signature this window as Arsenal look to bolster their defence for the second half of the Premier League season.
I honestly think this would be a clever signing on Wenger’s part if a deal can go through for the German international. It’s a German international who Arsenal could get for cheap and he is known to be very reliable in defence. He would certainly be an excellent cover in defence and also add some strength to the holding midfield role, creating some competition between Francis Coquelin and newest signing, Krystian Bielik for the starting spot.
It remains to be seen if a deal can be made but hopefully something come of the bid.
