Though Villarreal had announced that Gabriel Paulista is Arsenal-bound, there were widespread claims that the Gunners may not be able to deploy him in front of David Ospina due to potential work-permit issues. Arsene Wenger has now shed light on the subject saying that the deal could be done before FA Cup draw.
After his side escaped last minute pressure from Brighton to secure their spot in the next round of the tournament, he revealed that the deal could be finalized in twenty four hours. When Ray Stubbs asked the Frenchman about the progress of the transfer, he answered wearing his illustrious grin signifying his content over singing a top-class defender.
“Yes, the reports are accurate. It’s very, very, very close and it should be done tomorrow.”
When asked if work-permit is still a concern for the 24-year-old defender, the Gunners manager revealed that his side would not face any issues.
“We will be all right on that front.”
He heaped praise on his new recruit lauding his physique and mentioning that he has enough potential to shine on the English soil. He added that his inexperience in European competition does not bother him much.
“He is player who is 24-years-old, he is a good size, good pace and is a good defender. He plays only for one year in Europe, maybe there are some things to work on, but the potential is there.”
Gabriel Paulista has penned a long-term contract with the Gunners, who paid £11.2 million for his services. He is tipped in to ease the pressure off Per Mertesacker, who has played twenty one Premier Leagues, nine more than his partner in Laurent Koscielny.
