It looks as though Arsene Wenger is set to land his man this window as it is being reported that Arsenal have finally been granted the work permit for Brazilian Gabriel Paulista.
Reports today of this news means that the deal is practically done following successful negotiations over the last couple of weeks. According to The Daily Star, the fee is agreed to be around £13.5million for the highly rated centre back.
The deal also sees the young Costa Rican move the other way to Villarreal on a season long loan, in a deal worth around £750,000.
Arsene Wenger stated yesterday in a post-match interview yesterday that the deal was nearly there:
"The move is very, very, very close. It will probably be tomorrow."
He went on to comment on what type of defender the Brazilian is and what he can bring to the team:
"He is a defender, can play on the flanks as well, tall, pacey and strong in the challenges.
"He has a good chance to adapt to English football. I see in him good potential and he can be a good addition to the squad.”
According to the source Gabriel has already passed his medical and is set to take the number 5 shirt following the departure of former skipper, Thomas Vermaelen.
I have a good feeling about this signing if I’m honest. He’s a strong, tall centre back and not afraid to get stuck into some challenges. I think Arsenal needed da real tough tackling centre-back just to put a little backbone into the defence and I hope Gabriel can bring that to the team.
He looks set to be the latest Brazilian addition to the team and will hopefully join the likes of Gilberto Silva and Edu as quality Brazilians Wenger has brought in before and not end up like Andre Santos!
