It looks as though Arsenal may miss out on one of their transfer targets this window as Italian international Mattia Destro looks set to make a switch to AC Milan.
Destro had been heavily linked with Arsenal during most of this transfer window, and were in the front running to sign him. Both Arsenal and Tottenham were in contention to sign the striker however it seems like he will be staying in Serie A.
It was being reported that Spurs were looking to sweeten their deal by offering Vlad Chrinches and money as part of the deal to bring Destro to White Hart Lane.
It was rumoured that Destro’s agent had talks with Arsenal officials who flew into Rome to speak of the player’s availability. Arsenal were looking to increase their attacking options following the successful signing of Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal, which has bolstered the Arsenal defence.
It looks as though both North London clubs have missed out on one of their top transfer targets as he looks set to become an AC Milan player. Destro went to Facebook to release the news of his move stating:
"Thank you Roma, I was a kid and you made me grow up.”
"Now to Milanello for a new challenge, convinced and determined. I'm already counting down to San Siro!"
Is this a missed opportunity for Arsenal? I’m not sure. If Arsenal did sign him, they would have to change their style of play as they could not use the same tactics they use when Giroud is up front. Destro is much shorter than the big French man however he is a clinical finisher. I still believe that Sanchez would be able to do the same job as Destro in the centre for Arsenal if we needed him to, so it’s not devastating news that we look like we are going to miss out on the Italian international.
