Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has urged fans to give their latest signing Gabriel Paulista some time to settle in England.

Paulista has just recently signed a deal to join the North London outfit from Villarreal in a deal rumoured to be in or around £13.5million. Although the price tag, the Gunners boss has warned the fans to not expect anything instant with Paulista.

The manager believes that Arsenal have signed a player of real quality:

'He is a specialist at centre-back and with the fixtures we have in from of us, that is needed,' said Wenger, who confirmed he saw Campbell's long-term future at Arsenal after the player's recent new deal.”

'What I saw was a great quality for a defender, his level of concentration.”

'He is physically able to adapt to the Premier League because he is quite a good size and is quick as well, has great commitment in the challenges and is a good age for a central defender as well.'

Wenger has today revealed that the newly signed centre back cannot speak any English, nor does he understand a word of it. In a press conference the manager revealed that Paulista could well cost the Gunners some goals in games stating:

‘At the moment, he doesn’t speak a word of English, and that can cost you goals,’ Wenger said.

'We try to teach the important words, for example - offside or look at the linesman!'
‘If you mix ‘going forwards’ with ‘going backwards’, it can cost you.”

He went on to explain that he needs time to get used to the Premier League:

‘You always have to give players time to adapt, especially in a defensive position, because you need to know your partners and need to communicate as well.”

He also mentioned that he is fit for the game on Sunday and could well be in the squad following his training session today with the squad and also Arsenal’s other January acquisition, Krystian Bielik:

‘He’s ready to go. He’ll be in the squad [against Aston Villa], certainly. He started his training yesterday and looks fit.’

Not the most reassuring word from Wenger that he could cost us goals. No doubt he will be a good signing for Arsenal in the long run. Let’s just hope that if he does indeed cost us goals, they aren’t overly important. Interesting to see if he will be played on Sunday or not.
