According to fresh reports from The Guardian today, the Gunners have received a huge boost in their pursuit for French international Karim Benzema.

New reports are circulating that La Liga champions, Real Madrid, are open to listening offers for the striker as they look to add a new member to their strike force, being interested in PSG’s Edinson Cavani.

Los Blancos has refused to deny that Benzema could be on his way out of the club. The Spanish side are of the opinion that Benzema has reached his peak form at the age of 27 and now are hoping to cash in on his quality. It is believed that a fee of around £40million is required to secure his services.

Benzema signed a contract extension back in the summer however, it looks like he is set to leave the Bernabeu by the end of the season. The Gunners are not the only English side trying to snap up the striker. Clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea are also said to be interested in his services.

Benzema has been in fine form this season with a goal scoring record of one every other game. In his 30 appearances in La Liga, the Frenchman has found the net 15 times.

United are reported to be heavily interested in Benzema following uncertainty over the future of both Falcao and Robin van Persie.

Arsenal have recently seen three forwards depart this window. The Gunners have let Podolski, Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell all leave the club on loan until the end of the season so our numbers up front are somewhat depleted.

Fans have been hoping for a top striker to join Arsenal since the departure of RVP and Benzema could be what the Gunners need. I hope that Wenger would make a move for him if the chance is available, only if he manages to bring in one more defensive unit before the window shuts. That should be his priority at the moment.
