Arsenal have received a huge blow in their pursuit of German international, Marco Reus. Reus had been linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund, this season especially, due to the side’s weak performance in the league. Before their victory at the weekend, Jürgen Klopp’s side sat bottom of the Bundesliga.
Big clubs in Europe such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid were said to be keen on the international however, it was reported a week or two ago that Reus was ready to snub all of these clubs and instead make the switch to work under Arsene Wenger.
The forward has today however, signed a new long term deal to keep him at the German side. His contract was set to run out in 2017, and he has now signed a two year extension to keep him at the club until 2019. It is reported that the new contract extension has wiped out the release clause in his contract.
Bernd Leno
According to The Metro, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in a new goalkeeper in the summer, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno said to be his top target.
It is being reported that Wenger has lost patience with his ‘keepers and is now looking to bring in more competition.
Wenger is said to have fallen out completely with Szczesny after the Polish international fell into trouble with the club for disciplinary reasons and there has been doubts over Ospina’s ability to cope with the Premier League.
A fee to secure the services of Leno is said to be around £25million, an expensive price tag for the 22 year-old. Leno is now Leverkusen’s number 1 keeper, making 20 appearances for the club this season.
The real question is, are Arsenal in need of a new ‘keeper? I don’t think so. I believe that the Gunners have two great shot stoppers. Ospina will need a little time to adapt to English football and hasn’t made a bad go of it as of yet.
Szczesny on the other hand would be a great goalkeeper if he gets his head together and just focuses on doing his job. If Wenger can get the Pole back playing as he should for the club, we have no need to add in this position.
