Olivier Giroud had his share of time on the sidelines due to injuries, but his rapid recovery from injury seems to have made him a better version of himself as he notches up goals on a regular basis as of late.
However, despite his striking goal-scoring form, Arsene Wenger believes his compatriot can further increase the frequency of goals stating that his name can well be found in scorecards of every game that he features.
“I want those numbers (goal-per-game ratio) to go down even more – he (Olivier Giroud) can do one in one. When you look at the numbers of the top strikers now, they approach 1.1, 1.2 and I think he has the quality to get there."
Arsenal are a team known for their exquisite build-up with Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Tomas Rosicky letting their strikers to pick up the balls out of nowhere to find the back of the net. The Frenchman lauded the 28-year-old striker for being vigilant in the penalty box and making sure the crosses and key passes are converted.
“The timing of runs in the box is important and he has improved a lot on that. He has improved on the quality of his finishing as well and he’s surrounded by players who can contribute, who can create crosses, give final balls and then feed your strikers with quality. In our team he gets that.”
Arsene Wenger was full of praises for the eager beaver stating that his industry is unparalleled in the whole of Europe. However, he remained stubborn that there is still room for improvement for the former Montpellier forward.
“What is more important as well, I believe he has improved his team play and his link play. He works hard for the team and not many strikers in Europe work as hard as Olivier does for the team. Even if his numbers are excellent, as long as he continues to contribute to the team I’m very happy.”
Arsenal travel to Selhurst Park later today and Olivier Giroud may well be expected to spearhead the line-up for the Gunners and there seems to be no reason why Arsenal Wenger would want to bench him in this must-win game given his remarkable form.
