After their worst start to Premier League campaign in more than three decades, Arsenal have now bounced back to haul thirty four points while also confirming their presence in Wembley at the closure of this season in a bid to retain their FA Cup trophy.
Despite playing only a bit-part role in the Gunners’ upturn of fortunes, Theo Walcott heaped praise on his team-mates stating that the current roster comprises the strongest Arsenal side in a really long time as he confessed the difficulty in starting games for the Gunners.
“I’d say so. There’s a lot of competition for places so everyone seems to lift a gear and play extremely well. It makes it a bit more difficult for people to get into the team. I think, especially this season, not many people thought we’d be second and challenging for the Premier League.”
Arsenal have often seemed to be on course to end their wait for a Premier League title before succumbing to injuries and the England international claimed that waning injury list was the cornerstone in their recent upturn of fortunes.
Having failed to win only on four occasions, the former Southampton lad believes that the Gunners have been the best team in Europe and stated that the Emirates Stadium club could well make the Premier League title theirs, if not for injuries.
“In this calendar year, we’ve been the best team in Europe. It’s the strongest the squad has been and everyone is staying fit as well. There aren’t many injuries in the squad, which is important. If we had an injury-free season, I think we could lift the title.”
Arsenal travel to KC Stadium this weekend hoping to mount more pressure on the second-placed Manchester City and Theo Walcott can be expected to be a part of the team sheet.
