Olivier Giroud has been pivotal in the Gunners’ bid to ensure their presence in Champions League while also keeping their hopes of retaining the FA Cup alive, but was kept under scrutiny after a dismal performance against Monaco, which hindered their progress in the showpiece tournament.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, the Arsenal striker sounded rather philosophical, yet sensible as he divulged how players are celebrated and slammed in quick succession.

The Frenchman admitted that he was under massive pressure the following weekend when Emirates Stadium played host to Everton, but stated that his opener against the Toffees eased the pressure off his shoulders.

He also expressed his gratitude to Arsene Wenger for offering him an immediate chance to retaliate.

“I knew that almost all the eyes would be on me and my performance, so I tried to do my best and it was a better day for me. I thank the boss for giving me the chance to answer. I am pleased with that reaction and I felt really relieved after the game because it had been a little weight on my shoulders.”

The 28-year-old spoke about the impact of social media in modern football, but announced that pressure only brought the best out of the team and added that he had never been rattled by the influence of the social media.

“Nowadays you have to deal with that pressure. There is more media now, and social media as well - it is more than in the 1990s. But I like pressure and the boys do as well. I try to keep my distance from it in the good moments and the bad moments too.”

“Everything is amplified when you play well and everything is amplified when you miss one game. Everything is questioned. It is part of a sportsman today and you have to deal with that.”

Olivier Giroud has been involved in seventeen goals in twenty-two Premier League appearances and could well be expected to spearhead the line-up when Arsenal take on relegation battling Hull City this weekend.
