Steven Gerrard may have played his last game for Liverpool, but the Merseyside outfit seem to have replaced the veteran with a more versatile and younger version of the former England captain as it is rumoured that James Milner has chosen to play for the Anfield club next season snubbing Arsenal on course.
Arsenal were amongst a host of Premier League sides, who were keeping tabs on the England international given his imminent Manchester City departure, but it is now evident that the Gunners have lost out on their transfer target.
Although losing out on the former Aston Villa midfielder may upset a few Arsenal supporters, he would have only caused more helter-skelter in the midfield as north London club already have multitude of central defenders at his disposal. The level at which Santi Cazorla and the likes perform in the red and white shirt will result in him warming the bench at the Emirates Stadium.
The 29-year-old has often stated that his move away from the Etihad Stadium would solely be in search of game-time and that is something that Arsene Wenger finds it extremely difficult to offer even to the likes of Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere. One can only imagine if James Milner would be given the playing time he may demand.
Arsenal can instead use his wage on some player, who could genuinely strengthen the squad while James Milner plies his trade with the mid-table club, where he would get the recognition he deserves.
