The German international was loaned out to Inter Milan to find his long-lost form, but he carried with him his shyness in front of the goal all the way to San Siro scoring just once in sixteen starts for the Nerazzurri.

Roberto Mancini claimed halfway into his loan period that his long-term future with the former Italian giants looked bleak and tipped the 29-year-old to return to Arsenal at the end of his loan period.

Arsene Wenger may want to make room for fresh blood in the team in the form of Raheem Sterling or Pedro Rodriguez by offloading Lukas Podolski, who happens to make more monies than Nacho Monreal and Francis Coquelin combined.
