Having made Petr Cech his priority this summer, Arsene Wenger has been trying to lure the Chelsea talisman to Emirates Stadium, but the transfer has not come to fruition despite the keeper showing intent to sign for the Gunners.

When quizzed about the potential transfer of the Czech Republic goalkeeper to Arsenal, Jose Mourinho hinted that he also had someone, who entices him at the north London club and recent events suggest that the Portuguese had Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in his minds when he made that claim.

After weeks of speculation, the Stamford Bridge club seemed to have approached Arsenal over a possible swap deal involving Petr Cech and the English winger only to be turned down by the Football Association Cup holders.

The performance of the former Southampton starlet has been marred by injuries, but he has shown improvements every time he was brought on after an injury layoff. Even though Arsenal will be hugely benefitted by the arrival of a world-class goalkeeper, Arsene Wenger apparently is not willing to sacrifice his youngster, who could go on to become an Arsenal legend.

Despite the adamancy shown by the French manager regarding the transfer of the 21-year-old, Chelsea do not seem to be giving up on their pursuit as the English media suggest that the Blues are weighing up a £20million move for him.

Arsenal, having turned down an opportunity to make Petr Cech an Arsenal player, will not relax their interest in him as an audacious bid is on the cards. However, they may have to fend off interests from Paris Saint-Germain, who boast better financial muscle than them.
