Arsenal are yet to officially announce the capture of Petr Cech, but the media have already discussing the aftermath of his transfer and Bob Wilson, while speaking to BBC Radio Five, expressed his views regarding the controversial move.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper, who had spent his entire senior career at Highbury, claimed that the Chelsea shot-stopper would guide his former side to the title, but stated that they were still short of quality when compared to the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea.

However, he seemed to share the same opinion as Thierry Henry as he asserted that the Gunners could be in contention to dethrone Chelsea in the event of making three top-quality signings. Coincidentally, Arsenal are now strongly linked to a world-class striker.

"I think it is an amazing signing. It's another step towards the title. Arsenal are very close to having a squad that almost matches Chelsea, almost matches Manchester City. I think everybody knows Arsenal are minimum two, maybe three, good signings to really challenge Chelsea.”

The Scotsman admitted that he did not expect summer signing Alexis Sanchez to have such massive impact, but maintained that the Czech Republic goalkeeper would offer the cutting edge that they had been lacking since the departure of Jens Lehmann seven seasons ago.

"We didn't know what we were getting with Alexis Sanchez, that he was this world-class player, but we certainly know what we are getting with Petr Cech and what he can bring to the side."

There are increasing whispers that the transfer may not benefit Arsene Wenger’s men beyond one or two years, but the former Football Focus host predicted six years of greatness for the would-be Gunner and announced that it was a marvelous move.

"So, he's 33 now, he still has five or six seasons of greatness in him and he is going to give Arsenal that assurance at the back that they really need. I am not saying he's the best keeper in the world as of this moment, but for him it is a marvelous move.”

Few Arsenal supporters branded the axing of David Ospina unjust given the role that he had played last season, but the Bob Wilson seemed to have no sympathy for him as he stated that only such daring moves could decide the fortunes of the team.

"You know, people will look at the two who are there - Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina - and the point really is that if you can improve your team in any way you'd be fools not to do it."
