Arsenal have been told by Napoli chief Nicolas Lombardo to break their transfer record, thereby meeting the release clause to bring long-term target Gonzalo Higuain to Emirates Stadium this summer, per Metro.

Gonzalo Higuain and Arsenal is a match made in heaven, but circumstances just do not let them unite and it turns out that the decision of his club to not sell him in the event of the release clause not being met could be a hindrance.

Going by the words of Nicolas Lombardo, the Italian club are now in a position to let the striker go as he did not seem to stress on their intention to prolong his stay at Stadio San Paolo.

Given the fact that they are only after monies, Arsenal now seem to have a clear run at the former Real Madrid star.

“Napoli are keen to make an official clarification based on some newspapers’ claims about the potential transfer of Higuain.

The club stresses that the Argentine has an existing contract clause of £67m. No bids below that figure will be accepted, those who want the player will have to match that valuation.”

Though it could be argued whether he would be an upgrade to Olivier Giroud, the price-tag that his club have slapped on him makes the transfer highly unlikely.

Furthermore, it is dubious whether he is really worth paying £67million for.
